Wow, bring on Week 2

What a great weekend for the first full week of college football. Absolutely ridiculous set of finishes. Our weekend started in Boulder, Colorado to watch the Buffs host the Horned Frogs. As usual, I toured some of the tailgate spots prior to the game. I will post my Colorado review later this week, but my favorite line of the weekend was definitely “You’re going to Laramie tomorrow? Well, you better make sure you enjoy tonight.” I loved the line, but Wyoming had the last laugh. We had a way better time in Laramie than Boulder. Of course, it didn’t help Colorado’s case when they got manhandled by TCU. The Wyoming – TCU game, however, was a two OT barnburner.

As usual, it was a rough week for me pick wise as I split the weekend. Thankfully PSU covered against Purdue, barely. I was then let down by the previously mentioned Buffaloes who could not keep their game close. On Saturday, the Wyoming Cowboys righted the ship for me. I was a LSU Tiger fan Sunday night, and like their fans, I thought for a brief moment at the end of the game that I still had a shot for a win. Then, FSU blocked the PAT and my hopes were dashed. It will take a little more from the Seminoles, but I am starting to believe. Other comments on Week 1

  • I told you the Hokies struggle with ODU. Going to be a lean year at Lane Stadium I think
  • My heart goes out to App State and East Carolina – they both deserved better
  • Bama and Clemson –  win big and New Mexico State keeps losing
  • Knew that Pitt -WVU was going to be a great environment and great game

The first couple of weeks are always hard when it comes to picking games. This week, I like UCF to cover against Louisville (+5.5), I expect UTSA to do the same against Army but I liked this a lot better when the Road Runners were only giving 2 points to the Black Knights rather than 3 points now. On the other hand, the line moved a point and half against UAB to -6.5 for the game against Liberty. I will take the points and Liberty. For the game we are going to, Colorado versus Air Force. I look for the Falcons to roll over the Buffs, covering the 18 point spread.

Not an awesome slate of games to watch this weekend. Some random thoughts:

  • Kentucky (20) at Florida (12). I always find Kentucky hard to trust, but the Gators might have a hangover from last week’s upset of Utah. This is probably the best game of the weekend.
  • Iowa State at Iowa is almost always a good game even if the Cyclones seem to find a way to lose the game in the end.
  • ESPN Game Day is going to Austin for the Alabama – Texas game. Ugh, that will be miserable in that heat for morning the telecast. The game isn’t likely to be any better. I expect the Tide to roll.
  • Baylor (9) vs BYU (21) is the game ESPN should be at. Better all around.

That’s all I got. Enjoy the games.
