What got us through the season 2025

This is easily my favorite blog to write each year. Not that it is really writing, but rather a collection of random thoughts and quotes that reflect the nuances of the season’s journey. If you weren’t with us, you might not get the joke, but you probably get the gist. Enjoy.

This Week: Playoffs, playoffs!

There was a time when I would pick every bowl game with corresponding analysis. The actual results were less than spectacular. Given my recent wagering results, it seemed any prognosis by me would be of little value. Betting bowl games was already fraught with danger, with squads that would mail it in for one reason or another. On top of this, teams are becoming shells of their regular season selves due to either portal departures or players opting out. Picking bowl games now is like a box of chocolates.

Here are my thoughts on the FBS playoff games this weekend, where presumably everyone is playing to win.

  • Alabama vs Oklahoma: Didn’t we already see this game? The Crimson Tide lost by two when they hosted the Sooners this year. Maybe the criticism of their lackluster play in the SEC championship will light a fire under Alabama in the rematch. While the Sooners probably won’t win by as much as ND fans want them too, I still like Oklahoma.
  • Miami vs Texas A&M: The Hurricanes are the other team ND wants to see get destroyed. The Texas game was the wake up call the Aggies needed. Miami gets stomped and ND gets some smug self-satisfaction.
  • Tulane vs Ole Miss, JMU vs Oregon: If you believe SEC mouthpiece, Paul Finebaum, not only do the Green Wave and Dukes not belong in the playoff, but they are also literally destroying the integrity of game. A rather ironic take for someone whose conference was paying NIL money long before it was legal. I am hoping the Rebels are missing Lane Kiffin enough to give Tulane a chance. JMU’s defense has been very good but it probably won’t hold up against Oregon. However, as FBS newbies Delaware and Jax State showed with their first bowl victories, on any given Saturday…
  • Montana vs Montana State: In what may be the best game of the weekend, the Griz and Bobcats renew their rivalry for the second time this season. At stake this time is a birth in the FCS championship game. Montana State won by three just a few weeks ago. I like the Bobcats to repeat in another donnybrook.

To be honest, you are a little late to get a gift from our store and have it arrive for Christmas. But, one of our shirts or mugs late is better than a fast food gift card that is on time.

That’s all I got, enjoy the games.
