Sorry Kansas – Rest and Recovery

This week was supposed to be a Kansas doubleheader. However, when I figured out that Kansas was playing at Arrowhead, the trip became less appealing. While within the original rules as Arrowhead is the official home stadium of Kansas this season, I was looking for a reason to bail. Thankfully, an invite from my brother to join them in the Outer Banks met the bill. This weekend it will be sand and sun, although admittedly, I did see if there was anything nearby. My wife was very relieved to hear that Georgia Southern was away at Georgia State.

Last Week: Central Michigan

It is funny how things can come together. Central Michigan, to be blunt, was going to be a check the box experience. With a slightly sullen spouse in tow, we pulled into the stadium lot. Twenty-five bucks later we pull right into Tailgating central. That’s exactly how it should be when you visit a Group of Five team. After some mixing and mingling with the Chippewa fans, we went up to ticket booth and purchased two end zone seats for a total of $20. The kicker? It was a fantastic game that came right down to the wire. The full review will be out next week, but be assured it will be a good one.

Other notes from last week.

  • Flying in and out of Detroit, we saw lots of Michigan and USC fans. As you might guess, the USC fans were not in nearly as good a mood on Sunday morning after the tough loss to the Wolverines.
  • I find myself cheering for Auburn opponents in hopes it will kill interest in their upcoming game with Georgia. Over 1,000 tickets got dropped onto StubHub after the Tigers lost to Arkansas at home. Hoping I won’t have to mortgage my home for a ticket to that game.
  • Another team on the schedule bit the dust as Buffalo upset NIU. I was hoping I could roll into DeKalb with the Huskies undefeated.
  • A third team on the list, JMU, is so hot that I had to buy my tickets early. After seeing them lay 70 on UNC, I went to their website and there was literally only a handful of seats available for their game against Georgia State. The Dukes are a hot ticket.

The Picks

Week 4 Results

Another 500 week and still below the line.

  • First week I go without the emotional hedge of the game I was attending (Ball State at Central Michigan) and I lose. No worries as I happily traded a lost bet for a thrilling three TDs in the last three minutes with the home team getting the win.
  • Apparently, the dark recesses of my mind cannot be relied upon as Syracuse got smacked by Stanford.
  • WVU bounced back as expected against Kansas. For a brief moment, I actually looked like I knew what I was doing.
  • Twenty-four points is a lot to cover for any Power 5 vs Power 5 match-up. UCLA lost but I won as LSU couldn’t cover in their beat down of the Bruins.

Week 5 Picks

Playing mostly on the fringes this week as I don’t love a lot of the Power 5 matchups this week.

  • I am not sure why Buffalo is such a big underdog against UConn. I will take the points and the Buffs
  • UNLVs exQB Sulka was a baller. He’s gone thanks to a NIL dispute. I like Fresno State to take advantage of the turmoil.
  • App State has struggled this season and Liberty just keeps winning. Here’s to hard work and clean living – I am going with the Flames
  • It’s not that I don’t think Penn State will beat Illinois, I just don’t think they will cover.

As for the other games – enjoy the Georgia – Bama game. It should be a dandy. Oklahoma State vs K-State is the game I was going to be at so with my luck, it will be a barn burner. It will be interesting to see how BYU does against Baylor. I am not sure if the Cougars are real or not. Lastly, let’s keep the folks in the path of Helene in our thoughts today. There’s not many things worse than dealing with hurricane damage.
