Conference Week 2023

My fears about Louisville came to fruition. The Wildcats upset the Cardinals in a close one as the SEC flexed their conference muscles. Kansas rolled over Cincy and Arizona did the same against Arizona State. In the big game of the day, Michigan steadily pulled away from Ohio State. There is some talk that Ohio State will still make the playoff. I will defer judgement until after the games this weekend, but I am cooling on the Buckeyes. So, I went 2-2 for the week, which kept me just barely over 0.500 for the year. Normally, I am a bit better than that. I blame it on moving my betting to a legal platform which means I am excluding the Virginia schools. Unfortunately, those are the schools I know best.

Other observations from Week 13

• When I went to ODU earlier this year, I ended up buying a season’s worth of parking passes. I had a good time watching the Monarchs so I had made a mental commitment to go to any of the games where I could not sell the parking passes online. Fortunately/Unfortunately, they all sold which meant I missed a crazy exciting game last weekend. Missing exciting finishes has been a theme this year.
• I absolutely do not understand Auburn’s man-to-man coverage on the 31 yard, fourth and goal. I don’t know why they didn’t have six DBs across. Instead, they give up game winning hail-mary pass with under a minute left.
• Is there a more up and down team then Virginia Tech? Hokies rolled over their rival, UVA. It did make me chuckle when the Hokies came out for a celebratory post game victory photo on the field and the UVA groundskeepers turned the sprinklers on them.
• Farewell to the PAC-12. College Football will be worse for the loss of that historic conference.
